20 April 2026   |    News
This week (20th April 2026) the Sandyford Adult Gender Service in Glasgow have said that they are beginning their adult waiting list validation exercise. This involves sending a questionnaire to everyone currently on their adult waiting list via text, email or letter depending on their contact preferences, and checking that their details are correct and if they still want to be on the waiting list.
They have already done this exercise for the young person’s waiting list, and say they are carrying out this out to ensure they hold accurate information about those on the waiting list, and as part of their effort to reduce waiting times at the service
If you are on the waiting list and are contacted by Sandyford, please confirm your details and let them know if you would like to stay on the list or be removed from it within 14 days. Sandyford have said that they will send reminders to respond, and that they will make further attempts to contact those they have not heard from before any changes are made to their status on the waiting list.
The Sandyford’s webpage and FAQ on the validation exercise seem to suggest that if they are unable to contact someone after several attempts, that they may then be removed from the waiting list, but this is not clear. When they discussed this exercise with us previously, they said that anyone removed this way could be reinstated in the same position they were in they were removed if they contacted Sandyford, and would not be placed at the bottom of the waiting list. Again, we are uncertain if this is the case, and have contacted Sandyford to confirm these details, and will provide an update when we have answers.
Sandyford have said that they are contacting people from the waiting list in different stages, so don’t worry if you don’t hear from for a few weeks. They say they should have contacted everyone by 1st June 2026, so if you haven’t heard from them by then, please get in touch with them here. If you think you have changed your details since joining the waiting list and Sandyford will then be unable to contact you, you may wish to get in touch sooner.
Sandyford have asked that you do not contact the service directly to ask about the validation exercise, however if you need translation or interpretation services to respond to them you can find out more information about this here. You can also find more information about the exercise from their FAQ here.
We apologise that we have not been able to provide this information any further in advance, but we were only made aware that this exercise was happening late on Friday afternoon, and needed to confirm several details with Sandyford before sharing. Our chief concern was what would happen to people who were removed from the list if Sandyford could not get a hold of them, and if they could be readded to the list without having lost their place. We are still waiting to hear back from Sandyford if this is the case.
We understand that many people will be worried about this, especially those who have already been waiting several years for an appointment at Sandyford with no clear indication of when they will be seen. Please remember that if you believe that your contact details are up to date, then you do not need to do anything until you are contacted, and you should wait until June 1st to contact Sandyford if they haven’t got in touch with you first.
We will do our best to keep you updated if Sandyford make any more information available, but please let us know if you have any issues with the validation or require further information and we will pass this along to Sandyford. It is really important that as many people as possible get this information so that nobody gets missed out, so please share this as widely as you can.
